Mentor Teachers

RTR places residents (pre-service teachers) in the classroom of an in-service teacher, called a Mentor Teacher (formerly known as a Clinical Resident Coach / CRC), for the entire school year.  Mentors receive training to provide year-long, specialized coaching support.  We are accepting applications for Mentors for the 2023-2024 school year.

Are you a teacher in a high-needs school in one of our partner school divisions? (take a look at the partner school division page to see if your division is focused on specific schools for the 2023-24 school year) Are you interested in learning valuable leadership and mentoring skills?  Do you want to help residents develop the skills and knowledge needed to be strong teachers?  Are you interested in earning up to $3,500 to coach a resident for the school year?  If so, you should apply today to become a Mentor!

Mentors must have:

  1. A valid Virginia collegiate or postgraduate professional license
  2. A minimum of three years of recent teaching experience
  3. A full-time teaching assignment in elementary education, exceptional education, or secondary education (math, science, English, or social studies)
  4. Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  5. Exemplary classroom practice and leadership capacity

To be considered for the Mentor position, both new and returning Mentors will need to complete an application.  Those who served as Mentors during the 2022-23 school year will just need to input contact information.  Those new to the position, or those who have not served as a Mentor in the most recent school year, will also need to complete the full application and record a 30-minute teaching sample, attach the video to the application, and provide the names and email addresses of two references (1 supervisor and 1 colleague, community member, etc.).
