  • You will need to provide the name and email address of three professional references. These can be current/former supervisors, current/former colleagues, or current/former professors or advisors.
  • You will need to upload your statement of intent. This document describes your motivation to become a teacher through the RTR program.
  • This document provides detailed information about the application process, including the prompt for the statement of intent.
  • The deadline to apply is February 1, 2025.

Transcript Review

  • Graduate Applicants
    • After your application is submitted, your transcripts will be reviewed based on your teaching interest.
    • VCU School of Education faculty will review your transcript to ensure that you have a 3.0 GPA (or a cumulative GPA of a 3.0 in the last 60 hours of your Bachelor’s) and that you have taken the prerequisite coursework needed for teacher licensure.
    • You will be notified if you need additional coursework for your program of interest or if you are not qualified to move forward due to not having the required GPA or prerequisite coursework.
  • Undergraduate Transfer Applicants
    • The VCU Transfer Center will review your transcript to ensure that you have an associate’s degree and a 2.5 GPA.
    • If eligible to transfer, School of Education faculty will then review your transcript based on your teaching interest.
    • You will be notified if you need additional coursework for your program of interest or if you are not qualified to move forward due to not having the required degree or GPA.
  • Current VCU Undergraduate Applicants
    • RTR staff will review your transcript to verify that you have the required 3.0 GPA and will be entering your senior year at the time.

Interview

  • If you are qualified to move forward based on the transcript review, you will be invited to participate in an interview via Zoom during the first two weeks of March.
  • During the interview, you will respond to interview questions focused on your desire to teach in the high-needs setting as well as qualities you will bring to the program.
  • During the interview, you will also teach something for a total of 5 minutes. You get to choose the topic of your lesson. The interviewers will be your students.
